During high school, Oprah got her start at  WVOL, a Nashville, Tennessee radio station, as a News Reporter. Next came a Co-Anchor position on the local evening news at WTVF-TV in Nashville when she was just 19.  In 1976 she graduated from Tennessee State University with a degree in Speech Communications and Theater. Her next steps in the broadcasting world included launching her own production company, and soon in 1988, Harpo Productions was born.  The company took control of all production responsibilities of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” which has transformed into the informative and inspirational show it is today.  Also along the way, Oprah and the production company took on film roles such as Beloved and Their Eyes Were Watching God based on the novels of Toni Morison and Zora Neale Hurston respectively.
In 1998, Winfrey began Oprah's Angel Network, a charity aimed at encouraging people to make a difference in the lives of those in need. In 1996, Oprah’s Book Club premieres.  And in 2000, Oprah’s O Magazine makes its debut on the newsstands.  Its said that everything Oprah touches turns to gold and boy has it.
Today, she holds many titles. CEO, Producer, Philanthropist, Actress, Writer, Publisher and Talk Show Host just to name a few.  The Oprah Winfrey Show is the highest-rated talk show in history and as of 2009, she and the show have received 48 Emmy awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award.  All of her pursuits have been sold and viewed to hundreds of millions of viewers and readers all over the world.
