Albert Einstein

From Dropout to Genius…

Albert Einstein’s genius went unrecognized for years.  He never lost faith in his own abilities. Now he’s known as the greatest mind of the 20th century.

It doesn’t pay to alienate people.  Albert Einstein, possibly the best mind of the 20th century, learned that the hard way. Born in Germany, his academic career started out on a shaky note when he failed the entrance exam to study electrical engineering.  Later while attending school in Switzerland, he routinely skipped classes.  He found the courses and instructors dull and boring.  After graduating, Einstein found he needed the backing of those same instructors to land a teaching job, but he didn’t get it. Wonder why?

Unable to find work as a teacher he took a job as a Clerk at the Swiss Patent Office in Bern, Switzerland. This gave him time to refine his theories.  His time at the patent office wasn’t wasted.  He ultimately earned a doctorate from the University of Zurich while working there, and also published several papers.  By 1909, those papers had earned recognition within the scientific community.  He resigned from the patent office and became a full Professor at Karl-Ferdinand University in Prague.

In 1919, Einstein’s “Theory of Relativity” was proven correct… you know, e=mc2, the equivalence of mass and energy.  Suddenly the man who could barely pay attention in class or find a job was an international celebrity.  Shortly after, he received the Noble Prize in 1921. Quite a turnaround for the teenager who‘d failed his entrance exam.  Science would not be the same without his persistent career successes.
