Heidi Klum

Dress Like You Mean It…

Heidi Klum thought it would be fun to enter a modeling contest.  She never suspected that it would chart the course of her life.

Remember that old, but true story about the actress being discovered at a drugstore counter and becoming famous?  Well, Heidi Klum’s rise to celebrity status began as the type of thing young girls dream about.  In 1992, on a whim, a friend convinced Klum to enter a fashion model contest.  She won over 25,000 other contestants.  As a result, she was offered a modeling contract with Metropolitan Models in New York City.  Klum accepted, and her career in fashion began.

Klum has been a Fashion Model on the cover of Vogue, ELLE and Marie Claire, but is best known for her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers as well as her catalogue spreads and runway appearances with Victoria's Secret.  Klum has been a Spokes model for some of the world’s best know companies including Jordache, McDonald's, Volkswagen and Liz Claiborne. She’s even dabbled into acting with a few TV and film credits under her belt including Sex and the City, Spin City and The Devil Wears Prada.

Since 2004 she has been the Producer, Host and Judge of Project Runway, Bravo Channel’s fashion designer contest and top reality TV show.  In 2008, she received a Peabody Award and an Emmy nomination for the program.

Klum is also a Designer and Artist, having designed clothing, shoes, jewelry and painted work featured in art magazines.  She co-authored her biography entitled “Heidi Klum’s Body of Knowledge.”

Today, she has made The Forbes List of the World’s Top Earning Models and it was estimated that her 2008 income was $14 million.  For Mattel’s Barbie Collection 50th anniversary in 2009, Heidi was chosen as an official spokesmodel.
