For the incredible limelighters and “behind the scene”-ers...

You rocked in Public Speaking.  You were always the one either in front of a microphone, on a stage somewhere or making magic happen behind the camera.  And now you're fascinated by news coverage, show or commercial production, television and media content.  Yup, you've got the bug.

Getting in won't be easy.  Jobs in Broadcasting, Media and Journalism are highly competitive.  That's the bad news.  The good news is that the jobs are so unbelievably vast, you can enter the industries and create your career in a million different ways.

Like to be behind the scenes?  Aspire to be a News Director, Head Writer, Music Producer, Technical Director, Set Designer, Programming Director, Show Director, or Station General Manager among others.  Feel like you are made for the limelight?  Then "lights, camera, action" with tops jobs such as Reporter, Video Journalist (VJ), News Anchor, Correspondent or Show Host.

These jobs aren't impossible to land.  You just have to start from the ground level, up.  Starting jobs in the industry include Administrative Assistant, Video Editor, Sound Technician, Camera Operator and the oh-so-needed, oh-so famous Production Assistant.

For behind-the-scenes Broadcasting jobs, Media jobs or Journalism jobs, internships, associate programs and temp jobs (assigned through temporary staffing agencies) are the best ways to get your foot in the door.

To get on camera, you will have to "fit the screen" and be able to produce stellar headshots and demo reels.  Then once you're in, network, network, network.  You're contacts will prove vital for advancement.

No matter what job you land, it's a step forward.  Just remember the industry is vast.  And to keep your dream job in mind, always remember the ultimate goal and learn everything you can along the way.
